Transcend Australia Awarded Grant to Boost Family Support and Accessibility

Thrive & Flourish

We’re excited to announce that Transcend Australia has been awarded $50,000 through the LGBTIQA+ Sector Strengthening Grant Program to deliver the ‘Affirmation and Accessibility Boost’ project.

Launching in April 2025, this 12-month initiative will strengthen our support for families of transgender, non-binary and gender diverse young people—particularly those in rural and regional communities, as well as families living with disability or neurodivergence.

Through this project, we’ll:

  • Develop resources and options for families struggling with acceptance
  • Create a screening tool to better support families and allocate resources
  • Improve accessibility across our services for disabled caregivers and young people.

As our Board Chair, Tara Laursen, shares:

“If we want trans young people to truly thrive, we must lift not just the child, but the whole family – and this funding will help us do exactly that.”

This grant will enable us to embed new tools into our Family Services program, expand our reach, and break down barriers to ensure every family receives the high-quality, individualised support they deserve.

Stay tuned as we roll out this important work. Together, we’re creating a more inclusive, accessible future for trans young people and their families.
