Welcome ↓

Thank you for visiting Transcend Australia. We are glad you are here and we want to help you.

Approximately 2-3% of Australian young people identify as trans, gender diverse or non-binary (trans). There is a high chance that in any education setting, that there will be trans young people.

We know from the research available, that trans people do better in life and in their studies when they are in a safe and supported education environment. Educators play a vital role to ensure that the education space is a safe and affirming one for Australian trans young people.

Transcend Australia has supported thousands of families across Australia, many whom have reported that their children have often suffered at school because of a lack of a supportive environment where bullying or poor behaviour hasn’t been managed effectively. Sadly, we are often informed that a trans young person has been excluded from important activities like a school camp or school sports. School staff may even refuse to use a chosen name and pronouns. Bullying can become a significant issue and often the build up of these experiences can impact a trans young person’s ability to remain engaged in school as they don’t feel safe to go. Together, we can change this!

Access to education is a human right and we want all Australian young people to feel able to receive an education so that they can have better futures.

Transcend Australia has created some resources for school to help support and affirming trans young people at school.
