Coming soon: a first of its kind program for dad and father-figures

Thrive & Flourish

We’re excited to share that Transcend Australia has received funding through the Victorian Government’s 2025–26 LGBTIQA+ Sector Strengthening Program, delivered by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing Victoria, to launch what we believe is one of the first dedicated support programs in Australia for fathers and father-figures of trans, gender diverse and non-binary children and young people.

Fathers and father-figures play a crucial role in the wellbeing, safety and resilience of trans young people, yet there are currently very limited services designed specifically for them.

“Fathers and father-figures are deeply important in the lives of trans young people, but many tell us they struggle to find spaces where they feel supported, informed and connected.

This program is about changing that. By creating opportunities for dads to build confidence, community and understanding, we can strengthen families and improve outcomes for trans young people.”

Susanne Prosser, CEO Transcend Australia

Over the next year, Transcend will co-design and deliver up to three structured six-week programs focused on building understanding, confidence, wellbeing and connection. Activities will include facilitated group sessions, practical workshops, peer connection opportunities and story-sharing designed to help fathers feel more supported, informed and connected.

The program responds to a significant service gap and is grounded in evidence showing that when fathers are engaged and supported, children and families experience stronger outcomes.

We’re deeply grateful to the Victorian Government for supporting innovative, community-led approaches that strengthen families and help trans young people thrive and flourish.

We look forward to sharing more details and participation opportunities in the coming months.
