Being in your child’s corner takes more than cheering from the sidelines.
It’s using their name. Listening when a conversation gets hard. Being the one who calls school when the bullying starts. Pulling up a relative over a hurtful comment. Taking them to the hairdresser for an affirming haircut and celebrating with a hot chocolate.
Making sure your child knows that dad is there, one hundred per cent.
For trans, non-binary and gender diverse young people, having a dad in their corner can be life changing. When the world gets louder, crueller and flooded with misinformation, a dad who shows up, listens and says “I’ve got you” can make all the difference.
Some dads have questions they’ve never said out loud. They’re worried about their child, worried about getting it wrong, or unsure how to talk about any of it. Dads are often less likely than mums to reach out for support, and few services are built with them in mind.
That’s where DadSpace comes in.
Transcend Australia’s DadSpace brings dads and father figures of trans, non-binary and gender-diverse young people together. Led by a dad of a trans child, it’s a place to ask the awkward questions, find your feet and learn from other dads who understand.
Because you don’t need all the answers to show up for your kid. But having support can help you take the next step.
This GiveOUT Day, help us take that dad-to-dad support further.
We’ll work with participating dads to turn what they’ve learned into practical resources for families across Australia. The dads will help decide what’s most useful: guides, conversation starters, short videos or podcasts, and tools to build confidence, communicate and ask for help.
Think of a dad searching for answers late at night. A father preparing for a conversation with his child, school or the local basketball club. Someone ready to speak up at the next family gathering, but needing help finding the words.
Your donation can help put support within their reach.
And that support travels. From DadSpace to the kitchen table. From home to the school gate. From one dad finding his voice to another young person knowing someone has their back.
More dads showing up. More young people feeling safe, accepted and loved.
Make your move this GiveOUT Day, Thursday 15 October.
Donate to Transcend Australia and help more young people have a dad in their corner.
