Living True, Living Better, a vital evidence-based resource pack countering harmful disinformation about gender-affirming healthcare for transgender young people, was launched today at Parliament House by Transcend Australia, in partnership with AusPATH and supported by Equality Australia and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia.
This comprehensive resource pack provides accurate information to guide decision-making for families, caregivers, health providers, policymakers, and communities. Developed in response to calls from Royal Australasian College of Physicians, it highlights the safety and effectiveness of gender-affirming care, supported by medical peak bodies worldwide.
Local studies, including Queensland’s paediatric gender clinic review and the Sax Institute’s “Evidence Check,” highlight exemplary care in Australia. Criticism like the Cass Review promotes restrictive alternatives unsupported by robust evidence, threatening access to essential care.
Guided by the ‘Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines for Trans and Gender Diverse Children and Adolescents’, Australia’s multidisciplinary approach to care is individualised, ethical, and compassionate. As the Royal Australasian College of Physicians notes, withholding care is both unethical and harmful.
Living True, Living Better comprises a number of fact sheets and evidence briefs covering these topics:
- Puberty blockers
- Trans positivity
- Trans young people and the risk of suicide
- Rapid onset Gender Dysphoria
- Neurodiversity
- Medical consent
- Gender affirming Hormone Therapy
- Detransition
The resource also provides an analysis of the Cass Review against the Australian service context, and it’s use and evaluation of research.
