Transcend Australia CEO Jeremy Wiggins, who heads Transcend Australia CEO Jeremy Wiggins, who heads the youth trans advocacy group, said the change would remove an "unnecessary," "harmful" and "invasive" barrier for the community.

"It's not ethical to force people to essentially become sterilised in order to apply to have their sex marker changed. It's inhumane."

We would like to acknowledge that today is not a d We would like to acknowledge that today is not a day of celebration for First Nations people, it is a day of sorrow and mourning and that is a very real and valid experience felt within our communities.

One way people can stand with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people is to register for the ‘Pay The Rent’ program. This is an amazing program where you pledge to donate money to a grass roots community controlled not for profit organisation.

“It is part of a process that all non-Indigenous people – individually and collectively – need to enter into if we are to move towards justice, truth, equality and liberation for First Nations people.”

Pay The Rent operates mostly in Victoria, but they can connect you to organisations and programs in other locations too.

Today we presented to the Queensland Parliamentary Today we presented to the Queensland Parliamentary Legal Affairs and Safety Committee’s inquiry into the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Bill 2022.

We have worked closely with Queensland families and their trans young people to ensure their stories, experiences and voices are heard and included in the process.

We would like to thank all the advocates and supporters who have paved the way over many years to help reach this point.

We particularly express gratitude to the young trans people and their families who shared their stories with us.

We hope that Queensland will join the chorus of other states and territories that are reforming birth certificate laws to make the process of updating birth certificates much simpler for trans people.

Because after all #transrightsarehumanrights
